How effective is your current odour control system?

What is the problem with Hâ‚‚S?

Hydrogen sulfide (Hâ‚‚S) is a toxic gas with several significant issues:

  1. Health Hazards: Hâ‚‚S is highly toxic and can be dangerous to human health even at low concentrations. It can cause irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, and higher concentrations can lead to headaches, dizziness, nausea, and respiratory problems. Extremely high levels can be fatal.

  2. Odour: Hâ‚‚S has a characteristic rotten egg smell, which is highly unpleasant and can be detected at very low concentrations. This can lead to complaints and discomfort for people living or working nearby.

  3. Corrosion: H₂S is corrosive to metals and can cause significant damage to pipelines, storage tanks, and other infrastructure. This can lead to costly repairs and maintenance.

Managing and mitigating Hâ‚‚S is crucial in industries such as wastewater treatment, petroleum refining, and natural gas processing to ensure safety, environmental protection, and operational efficiency.
The Syneco Solution: our objective is to eliminate Hâ‚‚S and mercaptens, regardless of the concentration, by changing them into something else entirely.

No matter if you spell it "odour" (the correct way), or "odor" (the other way), when it comes to sewer treatment and conveyance systems, it stinks.

This was, by far, the EASIEST decision in the world for me to make!

Back in late 2017, while serving in a previous role with a former employer, Syneco Systems was the first company I was asked to vet and, while I’m normally very thorough, I dug in extra deep on this one.

That meant grilling Dan Falkman, Syneco’s president, endlessly to understand the science and the engineering behind this seemingly “too good to be true” technology.  To this day, “sounds too good to be true” remains, as THE most challenging client feedback to overcome when reviewing how it works.

It’s a funny thing when you have a product that is on par economically with the alternative options that market and sell on price alone and massively outperforms the most complex (and expensive) systems typically used in very large and challenging applications.  And the kicker? – it is easier, safer and much cheaper to own and operate than either of the “cheap” or “complex” systems.

In virtually all scenarios, this would be more than enough to consider this as the best, most viable solution, but there’s more!  Its environmental impact is significantly lower than any alternative products currently available on the market – like by a lot!!!  It doesn’t use water, the spent media is pH neutral and can easily be disposed in a landfill (at that point, its pretty much just rocks, anyway!).

When Dan Falkman called and asked me if I’d like to take over this line for the Canadian marketplace, I couldn’t say “YESSSSSSS!” fast enough.  Over the years, he’s become a brother from another mother, and I’m thrilled to be working with him again.

It has also given me the opportunity to work with industry associates, people I truly admire and respect, and that’s why Matt Nicolak of Link Utilities will manage all Syneco activity in Ontario, and Michel Emond of Mabarex will manage Quebec and the Maritimes while I look after the Western Provinces.
